Quick take

Rubber mesh fly net with a telescoping aluminum handle and magnetic release for one-handed operation.

This GOODCAT landing net pairs an aluminum frame with a soft, clear rubberized mesh that has small 5 mm openings. The rectangular hoop measures 17 by 11.5 inches, and the whole net weighs under a pound, so it stays easy to carry while wading a stream or paddling a kayak. It folds down to about 17 inches and comes with a magnetic release and lanyard so your hands stay free for fly fishing on rivers and lakes.

Best for

Stream and river fly fishing
Wading and shore fishing
Fly fishing from kayaks

Skip if

You need a net for large saltwater species; the frame may flex
You want deep wading coverage; the 10 in depth is modest

Strengths

Clear rubber mesh doesn't spook fish and won't tangle flies
Magnetic release with carabiner keeps hands free and net attached
Aluminum frame resists rust and keeps the net lightweight

Trade-offs

17 x 11.5 in hoop is rectangular, not deep like some fly nets
Telescoping handle extends to 2.5 m but adds weight
Spring cord attachment requires coordination to use the magnetic release

Fishing fit

Water: Freshwater
Saltwater
Techniques: Fly fishing
Skill level: Intermediate
