Quick take

A strong magnetic net release with an extendable lanyard carabiner for fly fishing, also works with other small tools.

This magnetic net release pairs an aluminum carabiner with a coiled, stretchable lanyard that runs about 17 inches at rest and extends to roughly 100 inches. The magnet lets a landing net hang off your back and come free with a quick pull, which keeps both hands available for the rod and the fish. It suits fly anglers wading rivers and streams, and the carabiner end can also clip a pair of pliers or nippers.

Best for

  • Fly fishing where hands need to remain free
  • Keeping net and tools accessible at your vest
  • Anglers fishing tight water where mobility matters

Skip if

  • You prefer net clips or traditional knots
  • You don't use a fly vest or chest pack

Strengths

  • Strong magnets hold net securely even under tension
  • Extendable cord reaches out 2.5m when needed
  • Aviation aluminum resists rust in saltwater

Trade-offs

  • Magnetic attachment requires careful alignment
  • Retractable cord can snag in vest or brush
