Quick take
A 3 3/4 inch topwater popper with chugging action and deep sound for schooling bass and multi-species.
The Heddon Lucky 13 in Bullfrog is a floating topwater popper with a chugging, popping action. At 3.75 inches and 5/8 ounce with #2 treble hooks, it suits bass, pike, striped bass, speckled trout and redfish. A frog pattern fits shallow cover and calm surface water.
Best for
- Largemouth bass in shallow water and grass beds
- Schooling fish in bays and rivers
- Stripers and redfish in coastal shallows
Skip if
- You fish quiet presentations; poppers create noise
- You want a lure that swims rather than pops
Strengths
- Deep resonating chug sound attracts aggressive strikes
- Proven design as a classic schooling fish lure
- Works both freshwater and saltwater species
Trade-offs
- Chugging action requires active rod work, not passive retrieve

About this type
A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.
Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.
Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
