Quick take

A size 3000 spinning reel with IPX5 waterproof sealing for bass to inshore saltwater fishing.

The Spartacus II Plus in size 3000 is a mid-sized spinning reel for anglers who fish freshwater and inshore saltwater. It pairs a 5.2:1 gear ratio with a carbon fiber drag and an anodized aluminum spool. Four sealing rings give it IPX5 water protection, which suits rainy days, kayak trips and spray from the surf.

Best for

  • Kayak and boat fishing in rain or saltwater spray
  • Freshwater bass and trout with all-weather capability
  • Inshore saltwater fishing for redfish and snapper

Skip if

  • You need extreme saltwater durability for constant salt spray
  • You fish only calm, clear conditions where waterproofing is unnecessary

Strengths

  • IPX5 waterproof sealing with four Everseal rings protects from corrosion
  • 5.2:1 gear ratio balances line pickup speed with power
  • Anodized aluminum spool improves line flow for distance

Trade-offs

  • Waterproof seals may degrade with time in heavy saltwater use
  • 5.2:1 is moderate speed; not ideal for fast retrieves
  • 22 lb drag requires skillful handling on the largest fish
