Quick take

A 3.5 in soft plastic swimbait with a paddle tail that mimics dying baitfish on a steady or bouncing retrieve.

The Crazy Flapper in the 2.8-inch size is a small flapping soft plastic in a Green Pumpkin Fire color, weighing about 0.12 ounces. It can be Texas rigged, fished on a jig head, dropped on a drop shot or used as a jig trailer. Anglers chasing bass around cover will find it a flexible, compact option.

Best for

  • Bass in clear lakes and rivers
  • Light line finesse setups
  • Drop-shot rigs on structure

Skip if

  • You fish in heavy cover; soft plastics tear easily
  • You prefer hard lures that cast far

Strengths

  • Salt-infused plastic adds body and sink rate
  • Paddle tail creates subtle vibration on the retrieve
  • Works on multiple rigging styles including drop-shot and wacky

Trade-offs

  • Soft plastic tears on rocks and brush
  • Smaller size limits use in windy conditions
  • Requires small jigheads or drop-shot weights

About this type

A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.

Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.

Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
