Quick take
A collapsible 2-piece crawfish trap with cone-shaped funnel entries that trap crawdads but let them easily enter.
This torpedo-style crawfish trap from Kraken Supply Co is a steel wire mesh cylinder with cone-shaped openings at each end that let crawdads in and make it hard for them to back out. It splits into two pieces and collapses from about 18 inches long to 10 inches, so it packs down for storage and travel. A spring clip is included, and it suits creeks, ponds, lakes and marshes. Anglers can use the catch as live bait or for the pot.
Best for
- Trapping live crawfish as bait in creeks and ponds
- Boiling or cooking fresh crawdads
- Shallow water and marsh environments
Skip if
- You fish only with artificial lures
- You target crabs or large freshwater species
Strengths
- 2-piece rigid design collapses for transport and storage
- Cone-shaped funnel throats let crawdads in but prevent escape
- Steel mesh construction is durable in moving or still water
Trade-offs
- Rigid design limits flexibility compared to soft-trap alternatives
- Funnel design requires correct orientation in water to work
- May collect debris and algae that hides crawdads
Fishing fit
- Species
- Crab & shrimp
- Water
- Freshwater
