Quick take

Heavy-duty galvanized steel grapple hooks for retrieving and landing crab pots and other equipment from the water.

The KUFA GP3 is a three-prong grapple hook with a looped handle, formed from 1/4-inch galvanized steel wire and measuring 8 inches high by 5 inches wide. It is made for snagging a pot line or a crab pot from the water and hauling it in. At about 5.6 ounces, it is a compact piece of crabbing gear that is easy to stash in a tackle bag or boat locker.

Best for

  • Retrieving crab pots
  • Commercial or recreational crabbing
  • Lifting weighted traps and gear from deep water

Skip if

  • You fish with rod and reel only
  • You need smaller hooks for individual crabs

Strengths

  • Galvanized finish resists saltwater corrosion
  • Heavy steel construction handles weight without bending
  • Size fits most commercial-style crab pots

Trade-offs

  • Bulky design requires strong line
  • Galvanized finish can eventually rust if not maintained
  • Not suitable for holding small or delicate catches
