Quick take

Large net with 20 by 27 inch hoop and retractable aluminum handle extending to 65 inches for landing big fish.

A telescoping aluminum landing net with a 20 by 27 inch drop-shaped hoop and a rubberized mesh bag. The handle extends from 41 to 65 inches, so it reaches over a gunwale or down a bank, then collapses for the truck or boat locker. Rubberized mesh is a common choice for anglers who release their catch, and the whole net weighs about 2.4 pounds.

Best for

  • Landing large fish from shore or boat
  • Saltwater and freshwater use
  • Extended reach into deep water or off docks

Skip if

  • You fish small streams or wade exclusively
  • You need a compact pack-down design

Strengths

  • Large hoop contains big fish easily
  • Rubberized mesh is kinder to fish and doesn't snag
  • Telescoping handle adjusts from 41 to 65 inches

Trade-offs

  • Large hoop and long handle make transport difficult
  • Weight of 2.4 pounds tires the arm over long sessions
  • Rubberized mesh can crack if bent sharply when wet
