Quick take
A 1/2 oz vertical jigging lure with realistic shad profile and double treble hooks.
This Blue Gill version of the Lunkerhunt Straight Up jig is a half-ounce vertical jig in a blue gill color for anglers after bass and walleye. Its rear wings are meant to make it glide down on the fall, so it works for vertical jigging over open water as well as through the ice. Drop it to the fish, lift, and let it glide back down on slack line.
Best for
- Ice fishing vertical jigging through the hole
- Aggressive jigging for reaction strikes in open water
- Walleye and bass under-the-ice presentations
Skip if
- You prefer flutter-action spoons in ice
- You fish open water casting only
Strengths
- Realistic shad profile attracts aggressive strikes
- Double treble hooks improve hookup ratio on light bites
- Fast sinking cuts to bottom quickly
Trade-offs
- Heavy double treble construction risks snagging weeds
- Limited to vertical presentations and ice fishing

About this type
A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.
Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.
Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
