Quick take

A hard Japanese tackle box with 10 compartments across two large doors and four drawer trays for organizing hundreds of lures and hooks.

The Meiho VS-8010 is a large hard tackle box molded from impact-resistant polypropylene, measuring about 16.5 by 9.7 by 12.8 inches. Double-opening lids reveal three tiers with six trays, and four drawer trays slide out below. It suits an angler who carries a lot of lures and terminal tackle and wants it sorted in one case, and it weighs about 7.5 pounds empty.

Best for

  • Home storage of a large lure collection
  • Organizing hooks, weights and small tackle by type
  • Protecting tackle from moisture and dust

Skip if

  • You fish from a boat; smaller portable boxes are handier
  • You want lightweight for backpacking; this weighs 7.45 lbs

Strengths

  • Double-door design gives access to both sides without moving
  • Ten compartments separate lures by type or size
  • Rigid polypropylene keeps compartments from shifting

Trade-offs

  • At 7.45 lbs and 16 inches long, it is too big to carry easily
  • Doors open wide, making it unstable on narrow tables
  • No water resistance; moisture can pool in base
