Quick take

A hand-furled dry fly leader made in the USA with soft presentation and quick tippet rigging.

The Featherweight Dry Fly Leader from Moonlit Fly Fishing is a furled leader made of polyester thread, built for presenting dry flies and other small flies. This 4-6 weight version has a tip ring for switching tippet quickly and a tighter furl for a casting loop from leader to fly. It can be treated to float or left untreated for fishing subsurface.

Best for

  • Dry fly fishing for trout in streams
  • Presentations requiring natural float

Skip if

  • You fish subsurface only
  • You prefer simple tapered monofilament leaders

Strengths

  • Furled design provides incredibly soft presentation
  • Tip ring allows quick tippet swaps on water
  • Tighter furl improves casting loop shape

Trade-offs

  • Furl design is fragile if mishandled
  • Requires float paste for dry fly fishing
