Quick take
A specialized hook with a kinked shank designed for rigging half crawlers that spin at slow trolling speeds.
The gold Mustad Slow Death Aberdeen hook comes in size 4, and this pack holds 25 hooks for anglers rigging a half nightcrawler. Its special kinked shank makes the crawler spin and corkscrew through cracks and corners that faster blade baits skip. The needle point and ringed eye are built for walleye, bass, crappie, perch and panfish. Thread the bait up the shank and troll at a slow pace, letting the crawler turn.
Best for
- Walleye trolling with bottom-bouncer rigs
- Crawler spinning presentations over structure
- Targeting perch and panfish in mid-water
Skip if
- You fish fast-moving lures or current
- You need a straight-shank universal hook
Strengths
- Kinked shank creates corkscrew spinning action with minimal speed
- Opti-angle needle point ensures reliable hook penetration
- Special bend reaches into cracks and crevices that blade lures skip
Trade-offs
- Specialized design limits versatility to slow-troll crawler presentations
- Small size means fragility during rigging and casting
- Spinning action generates line twist requiring swivel use
