Quick take

A size 5/0 long-shank bait hook with kirbed point and ultra-sharp finish, designed for cut bait and whole bait targeting large saltwater and catfish species.

The Mustad Big Gun bait hook in size 5/0 pairs a kirbed point with a needle-sharp tip and a ringed eye. Its black nickel finish suits the strong saltwater species it is built for, from kingfish and tuna to shark. It is a practical choice for anglers rigging squid or fish chunks as cut bait.

Best for

  • Catfish fishing with cut bait or chicken liver
  • Saltwater bait fishing for snapper and snook
  • Anglers targeting large species where bite-offs are common

Skip if

  • You fish small panfish
  • You want circle hooks

Strengths

  • Long shank provides leverage and makes hook removal easier
  • Kirbed point curves away from shank for solid hookups
  • Opti-angle sharpening maintains edge through many casts

Trade-offs

  • Size 5/0 is too large for small baits
  • Long shank is harder to work in small mouths
  • 25-pack supplies limited number of rigs
