Quick take
Bronze treble hooks with wire weed guards that reduce snags in heavy vegetation without sacrificing hooking power.
This Mustad weedless treble has a weed guard made of three light wires over its points, so it suits anglers who work lures through weed beds and cover. It comes in a pack of five, and its spear point and treble layout make it a practical choice for rigging a lure or bait in heavier cover.
Best for
- Topwater and shallow-diving lures fished in weeds or grass
- Anglers targeting bass in cover where standard trebles tangle
- Replacement hooks for homemade lures and repairs
Skip if
- You fish open water where standard trebles work fine
- You need hook sizes larger than 1
Strengths
- Wire weed guard deflects grass and weeds without dulling hook
- Bronze finish holds an edge and resists light rust
- O'Shaughnessy bend angles the points outward for secure hooksets
Trade-offs
- Weed guard may occasionally miss and fail to prevent snags
- Wire guard can tangle on heavy mat vegetation
- Pack of 5 is small for anglers losing lures frequently
