Quick take
A size 8/0 black nickel circle hook with wide gap and 1X fine wire, designed for live-bait fishing and catch-and-release.
The Mustad Demon Perfect Circle in 8/0 is an inline circle hook for anglers who want to release fish with less handling damage. Its wide gap and needle point are built to roll into the corner of the mouth or lip, and the black nickel finish pairs with a steady line-tightening set rather than a hard strike. It suits live bait work on saltwater species such as tuna, marlin and halibut, and on freshwater catfish and alligator gar.
Best for
- Live bait fishing for big saltwater species
- Trolling with bridle-rigged baitfish
- Bottom fishing for grouper and snapper
Skip if
- You fish small live bait under 6 inches
- You use an aggressive hook-set technique
Strengths
- Circle design hooks in corner of mouth, not the throat
- 1X fine wire penetrates a hard mouth quickly
- Wide gap accommodates baitfish of various sizes
Trade-offs
- Size 8/0 is large, unsuitable for small baitfish
- Black nickel finish requires rinsing after saltwater use
- Setting is a firm line tighten, not an aggressive strike
