Quick take

Eight ultra-soft artificial waxworms with built-in scent for ice fishing and small-mouth species.

The NIKKO Dappy Waxworm is a 0.95-inch natural-colored soft bait, sold eight to a pack in a clam case. It floats, carries a built-in scent that renews when the bait is stretched, and is shaped to imitate a real waxworm. Anglers after crappie, trout and panfish, including through the ice, can rig it on a small jig, under a bobber or on a fly rod.

Best for

Ice fishing under the ice for trout and crappie
Panfish on small jigs
Situations where live bait is inconvenient

Skip if

You prefer live bait and can transport it
You fish large species like pike

Strengths

Ultra-soft material mimics real waxworm feel

About this type

A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.

Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.

Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
