Quick take
A rotary fly-tying vise with improved durable jaws, smooth bearing and full adjustability for a range of hook sizes.
This rotary fly tying vise from Nirvana On The Fly comes with an aluminum travel base and a bobbin rest. Jaws that adjust with one knob take hooks from tiny size 20s up to about 2/0, and a side knob sets how freely the head rotates. The grooved base holds flies, beads or hooks while you tie, which suits a tyer who wants a portable bench setup.
Best for
- Tying streamers and large saltwater patterns requiring full rotation
- Anglers who tie regularly and value symmetry in finished flies
- Traveling to fly-tying classes with the compact travel base
Skip if
- You tie only small dry flies and don't need rotation
- You prefer pedal-operated vises
Strengths
- Improved strong jaws hold hooks securely without deformation
- Smooth rotary bearing with adjustable tension works flawlessly
Trade-offs
- Rotary action means setup takes longer than fixed vises
- Fully adjustable tension requires practice to dial in correctly
