Quick take
Levelwind trolling reel with star drag adjustment and wide mouth for copper line, designed for walleye and pike.
The Okuma Convector CV-55L is the largest levelwind in the Convector trolling line, with a 4.0:1 gear ratio and a 34-inch line retrieve per turn. A wide-mouth levelwind clears copper line, and the multi-disc Carbonite drag is set with a ratcheting star. It suits anglers trolling for big fish who want a roomy spool, dual anti-reverse and a 2BB+1RB stainless bearing drive.
Best for
- Lake trolling for walleye and pike
- Running multiple lines with stacked releases
- Anglers using copper or lead-core line
Skip if
- You fish open-water casting or jigging
- You prefer low-profile baitcasters for freshwater
Strengths
- Levelwind guide keeps line organized on spool
- Stainless steel reinforcements resist corrosion
- Wide mouth accommodates copper line and specialty materials
Trade-offs
- Heavy reel at 35 ounces; requires sturdy rod and holder
- Trolling-specific; not versatile for other techniques
