Quick take
A compact line counter trolling reel with a mechanical counter that measures in feet, ideal for kokanee and light game fish.
The Okuma Magda Pro MA-20DX is a size 20 line counter trolling reel with a right-hand retrieve and a 5.1:1 gear ratio. A mechanical counter reads out line in feet, so you can repeat the same depth on kokanee, walleye or trout trolling runs. It pairs a multi-disc drag with two stainless ball bearings, a stainless levelwind and a graphite frame that weighs about a pound.
Best for
- Trolling for kokanee salmon in mountain lakes
- Jigging while tracking precise line depth
- Anglers who want to repeat productive depths without guessing
Skip if
- You fish power-trolling for large saltwater species
- You prefer round reels with higher drag capacity
Strengths
- Mechanical line counter in feet eliminates guessing depth during trolling
- Lightweight 12.6 oz construction reduces arm fatigue on all-day trips
- Self-lubricating gear system minimizes maintenance
Trade-offs
- 9.07 kg max drag insufficient for large fish or deep offshore trolling
- Graphite spool can develop micro-cracks in cold water
