Quick take

Clear vinyl tubing in 15-foot spool for protecting medium treble hooks on stored or transported lures.

This clear vinyl tubing has a 1/16 inch inside diameter and a 1/8 inch outside diameter, and comes in a 15 foot length. Cut it into short sleeves and slip them over the points of treble hooks to keep them from snagging in the tackle box, or on nets and hands. The size suits hook sizes 2 through 7, the range typical of bass and walleye lures.

Best for

  • Storing lures between trips without tangling
  • Protecting rod tips from treble hooks in tackle boxes
  • Organizing treble hooks by size

Skip if

  • You store lures in divided compartments or boxes
  • You use only weedless hooks

Strengths

  • Clear tubing allows size identification without removal
  • Flexible vinyl slides easily onto hook barbs
  • 15-foot length covers many lures or hooks

Trade-offs

  • Tubing must be cut to fit each hook, creating small scrap
  • Clear vinyl yellows over time in direct sunlight
  • Inner diameter tight for larger treble hook barbs
