Quick take
This 6.5X fluorocarbon tippet is one size in a line that runs from 0X to 7X for fly anglers working trout water. Its pure fluorocarbon build is made to sink faster than nylon, which suits nymphs fished near the bottom. Its light-bending index sits close to water, so the line is meant to stay hard to pick out in clear streams and spring creeks. The 6.5X size fits finer presentations to fish that have seen plenty of flies.
Best for
- Nymphing in streams and stillwaters
- Throwing large streamers with precision
- Fishing wary spring creek trout
Skip if
- You prefer soft nylon for dry flies
- You are beginning fly fishing
Strengths
- Patented extrusion taper delivers excellent turnover
- Superior abrasion resistance exceeds other leaders
- Refractive index near water makes it nearly invisible
Trade-offs
- Stiffer profile than nylon at the same size
- Not suitable for saltwater use
