Quick take
Size 1/0 black chrome octopus hooks with a cutting point, sized for live bait and saltwater bottom fishing.
This is an Owner 5311 SSW octopus-style hook in size 1/0 with a cutting point and a black chrome finish. The pro pack holds 46 hooks, so it suits anglers who go through plenty of terminal tackle. Made in Japan, it covers general bait fishing for a range of species.
Best for
- Live shrimp or small baitfish in salt water
- Bottom rigs for flounder, pompano or snapper
- Anglers who want a shorter shank than a J-hook
Skip if
- You are fishing freshwater; use a J-hook instead
- You need a needle point for small-mouthed fish
Strengths
- The cutting point penetrates harder fish mouths and tough shrimp shells
- The short octopus shank keeps baits centered in the hook gap
- Black chrome finish resists saltwater corrosion
Trade-offs
- The cutting point is slower to penetrate than a needle point on soft-mouthed fish
- The large hook eye may not suit fine presentation
- Fifty-eight pieces per pack means managing storage
