Quick take
Size 2 XX-strong circle hooks with black chrome finish, built to land large saltwater fish on live bait.
The Owner 5163 Mutu circle hook in size 2 is made for rigging live and chunk baits such as sardines, with a strong wire shank that helps a larger bait swim well. Its forged hangnail point and black chrome finish suit that kind of rig in saltwater, and each pack holds 8 hooks. It is rated for use with line up to 50 pound test.
Best for
- Trolling live mackerel or herring for big stripers or offshore species
- Anchored live-bait rigs in salt water
- Heavy tackle setups where hook strength matters
Skip if
- You fish freshwater; these are optimized for saltwater abrasion
- You need small hooks; size 2 suits large baits and big fish
Strengths
- XX-strength rating and forged construction hold against large fish
- Black chrome resists corrosion in saltwater longer than lighter finishes
- Hangnail point and circle hook design encourage solid hooksets
Trade-offs
- Size 2 is large; the hook weighs more than smaller sizes
- Circle hooks are less suitable for soft-mouth fish
- Black chrome will eventually pit in extended saltwater use
