Quick take
Saltwater live bait hooks with stainless steel rings on the eye for lively bait presentation to pelagic fish.
The Owner Offshore Ringed Hook in 1/0 has an offset needle point, a black chrome finish and a ring on the eye that gives live bait room to move. The ring also acts as a pivot point when a fish fights, which suits saltwater anglers rigging baitfish. It comes in a six-count pack.
Best for
- Live bait presentations to tuna, marlin and king mackerel
- Rigging live mullet or mackerel for offshore species
- Situations where live bait needs extra freedom to move
Skip if
- You fish bottom structure where rings could snag; solid eye hooks are better
- You fish for freshwater species; these are saltwater only
Strengths
- Ring on eye gives live bait freedom to move attractively and triggers strikes
- Offset point catches fish better as they turn to take the bait
- Blade-like curved point is sticky sharp and penetrates hard mouths
Trade-offs
- Ring may catch on structure when fishing heavy cover
- Sizes above 1/0 come un-ringed, limiting options
- Black chrome finish will eventually pit in very aggressive saltwater use
