Quick take

A saltwater spinning reel with an aluminum frame and 5 stainless steel bearings for smooth operation on heavier line.

This size 5000 spinning reel pairs an all-metal body and sideplate with a 5.6:1 gear ratio that picks up about 36 inches of line per turn. A carbon fiber drag system tops out at 25 pounds, and the braid-ready spool holds 300 yards of 30 pound braid. It suits anglers working heavier saltwater tackle for species like cod, bass and bream.

Best for

  • Saltwater casting from shore or boat
  • Live bait or lure fishing
  • Braided line techniques
