Quick take

Thick neoprene reel cover that protects conventional reels from dust, moisture and impact during storage and transport.

This X-Large PENN reel cover is made from 5 mm neoprene with triple-stitched seams and a Velcro closure. Lug cut-out slots let it fit over a conventional reel and sit neatly in storage. It measures roughly 5.5 inches across at the seam, so it suits big baitcasting and conventional reels carried in a rod locker or on the boat.

Best for

  • Transporting reel-heavy setups to and from the boat
  • Protection during travel to distant fishing destinations

Skip if

  • You use spinning reels, which need different cover sizes
  • You want a lightweight solution for frequent reel changes

Strengths

  • 5mm neoprene is thick enough to protect against bumps and dings
  • Velcro closure stays secure without digging into reel handles
  • Lug cut-out slots allow better fit on various reel styles

Trade-offs

  • Neoprene absorbs and retains moisture if not dried before storage
  • X-Large size is not suitable for smaller conventional or spincast reels
  • Thick material makes the cover bulky for transport
