Quick take

A thick 5 mm neoprene reel cover with triple-stitched seams and Velcro closures, sized for large conventional reels.

This large PENN cover is a black neoprene sleeve for a conventional reel, built from 5 mm material with triple-stitched seams. A Velcro closure keeps it snug, and lug cut-out slots let it fit over the reel's lugs for storage or the ride to the water. It carries the PENN logo and weighs about 2.4 ounces, so it adds little to a tackle bag.

Best for

Storing large conventional reels between trips
Protecting reels from dust and moisture in storage
Transport and storage of rented or borrowed conventional reels

Skip if

You own spinning reels; Penn makes different covers for those
You need a compact, packable reel cover for travel

Strengths

Thick 5 mm neoprene provides substantial protection from impacts and moisture
Triple stitching on all seams prevents tearing and extends cover life
Velcro closures with lug slots fit a wide range of conventional reel designs

Trade-offs

Large size makes the cover bulky to store when not in use
Neoprene does not dry quickly if wet, requiring air-drying
Fit depends on reel size; the large size may not fit smaller reels
