Quick take

A lightweight 7/8 automatic fly reel with line trigger for one-handed operation and winding without tangling.

This is a Pflueger automatic fly reel sized for 7/8 weight lines. A trigger pulls line in with a quick squeeze, so your rod hand stays free for paddling or steering a boat. The aluminum alloy frame and spool keep it light at about 11 ounces, which suits anglers who want simple, one-handed line recovery on the water.

Best for

  • Fly fishing from kayaks or while handling poles
  • Trout fishing where one-handed line management is needed
  • Anglers new to fly fishing seeking simplicity

Skip if

  • You prefer traditional manual fly reels
  • You need faster line retrieval speeds

Strengths

  • Automatic operation retrieves line with a quick trigger pull
  • Lightweight aluminum frame reduces arm fatigue on all-day outings
  • Ambidextrous trigger design works with either hand

Trade-offs

  • Line trigger requires a second hand to reach forward for casts
  • 1.25-inch retrieve per pull is slow compared to modern reels
  • Aluminum alloy may corrode in saltwater without rinsing
