Quick take
A low-profile baitcasting reel with 38 pounds of drag power and adjustable gear ratios for fresh and saltwater.
This is a 400-size low-profile baitcasting reel with an aluminum frame, a right-hand retrieve and an 8.1:1 gear ratio. A built-in bait clicker sounds off when a fish takes line, which suits anglers fishing live bait rigs. It is sized for heavier lures and larger freshwater or saltwater fish, with a 38 pound maximum drag.
Best for
- Heavy-cover fishing for large bass and pike
- Catfish and other strong freshwater species
- Saltwater casting for redfish and snook
Skip if
- You fish light line; the drag is overkill and risks breaking your line
- You need a reel for finesse techniques
Strengths
- Aluminum alloy frame and stainless bearings resist corrosion in saltwater
- Hercules Drag System increases brake pad contact for progressive, smooth drag power
- Extended counterbalance handle provides superior leverage and control on heavy fish
Trade-offs
- 38 pound drag is excessive for most bass and light-line applications
- Aluminum construction is heavier than some modern designs, adding fatigue on long sessions
