Quick take
Lightweight low-profile baitcaster with magnetic brake for all-day casting without backlash training.
The Piscifun Torrent is a low profile baitcasting reel with a 7.1:1 gear ratio that picks up about 30 inches of line per turn, a good match for pitching jigs and fast presentations. An external magnetic brake lets you dial in casting control, and the carbon drag tops out at 18 pounds. At around 8 ounces with a right-hand retrieve, it suits anglers moving from spinning gear to baitcasting as well as those adding another setup.
Best for
- Pitching jigs and creature baits
- Casting crankbaits in shallow water
- Beginning baitcaster anglers
Skip if
- You need a high-speed 8:1+ gear ratio reel
- You fish braided line exclusively
Strengths
- Magnetic brake is easy to adjust; prevents backlash with standard settings
- Lightweight aluminum spool reduces fatigue on long days
- Oversized EVA handle provides comfort and control
Trade-offs
