Quick take
Power Grip line release clips for downriggers, planers, and outriggers with 17-inch leaders and snap swivels.
This two-pack of line releases links the rod line to a downrigger weight, with a 17-inch leader and a snap on the weight end. The release is built from ABS plastic and stainless steel, and its tension is adjustable so you can set how firmly it holds the line before it lets go. It also works on planer boards, kites and outriggers, which suits trolling setups that run lines at different depths and distances.
Best for
- Trolling with downriggers for salmon and tuna
- Multiple-rod setups where releases need to trigger separately
- Saltwater trolling where weight and current are heavy
Skip if
- You fish lightline finesse techniques
- You use live bait where a snap would interfere
Strengths
- Adjustable tension lets you dial in release point for specific rigs
- Stainless steel snap and swivel resist corrosion
- Streamlined design avoids snagging weeds or fouling lines
Trade-offs
- Requires tuning to avoid premature release
- Snap may need occasional inspection for wear
- Works best as part of a complete downrigger system
