Quick take

A 28-foot cotton crab line with weighted stainless steel pin for dropping on crabs in shallow water.

The Promar AC-28 is a ready-rigged crab throw line with 28 feet of cotton twine and a weighted stainless steel pin. It suits anglers who crab from docks, piers and shorelines and want a simple hand line to toss out and haul back. The cotton line is made for crabbing and the kit needs no reel.

Best for

  • Recreational crabbing from piers and docks
  • Catching crabs and shrimp in shallow water
  • Beginners learning to crab

Skip if

  • You fish from a boat in deep water
  • You need a mechanical crab net or trap

Strengths

  • Cotton twine is strong and reliable for crab weight
  • 5 oz weight sinks quickly and stays in place
  • 28 feet covers most dock and pier crabbing

Trade-offs

  • Cotton absorbs water; dries slowly after use
  • 5 oz weight is heavy to throw repeatedly
  • Cannot fish multiple lines simultaneously like nets or pots
