Quick take
Sturdy plastic bait box designed to hold bait inside a crab pot, allowing crabs to enter and snack while keeping bait secured.
A yellow polyethylene bait box for crab pots, with a latch that holds the lid shut. This medium size measures 6 by 6 by 3 inches and has a single compartment. It straps into a pot so crabs can reach the bait while it stays contained, and it suits recreational and commercial crabbers alike.
Best for
- Commercial and recreational crabbing
- Securing bait in multi-day crab pot soaks
- Protecting bait from small scavenger crabs
Skip if
- You hand-feed or deploy bait outside the pot
- You fish in freshwater where crabs are not present
Strengths
- Strong latch keeps bait box sealed during pot deployment
- Polyethylene construction is durable in saltwater
- Small openings allow crabs to access bait without box escape
Trade-offs
- Bait box limits the crab's ability to quickly consume bait
- Latch closure may jam if silted or sandy
- Only practical for crabbing; not useful for other fisheries
Fishing fit
- Species
- Crab & shrimp
- Water
- Saltwater
