Quick take
A collapsible galvanized steel basket with spring trap doors to keep caught crabs and fish alive until ready to transfer.
A round, collapsible steel wire basket for holding crab, shrimp or small fish in the water while you fish from shore or a boat. It has a spring trap door on top for loading the catch and another on the bottom for easy removal, and it folds flat for storage. At about 13 inches across with a stainless steel handle, it suits anglers who want a compact basket that packs away after the trip.
Best for
- Keeping crabs alive during a long crabbing session
- Live-bait fishing in saltwater
- Keeping catch in natural water while fishing
Skip if
- You plan to transport fish for long distances; a cooler with aeration is better
- Your water has fast current; the basket may shift
Strengths
- Foldable design takes little space in a tackle bag
- Spring trap doors open and close smoothly for easy access
- Top door for inserting catch, bottom door for checking without removal
Trade-offs
- The basket holds water; it is heavy when full and packed wet
- Open wire mesh does not contain small bait well
- Without stakes or anchoring, the basket drifts in current
Fishing fit
- Species
- Crab & shrimp
- Water
- Saltwater
- Freshwater
