Quick take
A 5-foot ultra-light spinning combo for panfish and light trout, with graphite composite rod and EVA foam handle.
This Quantum Optix combo pairs a 5-foot, two-piece ultra-light rod with a size 05 spinning reel, so it suits anglers going after panfish and trout. The rod has a fast action and a split-grip EVA foam handle, and the reel offers a 5.2:1 gear ratio with a front drag and a switchable retrieve hand. It is a simple, light outfit for small waters and light lures.
Best for
- Beginners starting with light freshwater species
- Panfish on small creeks and ponds
- Youth and children learning to fish
Skip if
- You target bass or pike where heavier power is needed
- You fish saltwater or need a longer-range rod
Strengths
- 5-foot length is easier for younger anglers to control
- Graphite composite rod casts 1/64 oz lures smoothly
- Split-grip EVA foam handle is comfortable for long sessions
Trade-offs
- Ultra-light power limits you to panfish and small trout
- 5-foot length sacrifices distance casting for maneuverability
- Light line capacity means frequent re-spooling on shallow ponds
