Quick take
Lightweight plastic gripper with a locking jaw for one-handed fish handling and quick release.
The Rapala 6-inch Floating Fish Gripper is a one-handed locking tool for landing and releasing fish while keeping your fingers away from the jaws. Its molded plastic body floats, so a dropped gripper stays on the surface, and the wrist lanyard keeps it within reach. At about 3.2 ounces it slips easily into a tackle box or boat storage, which suits anglers working from a boat, kayak or shore.
Best for
- Boat and kayak fishing where hand-free grip matters
- Minimal-contact fish handling before release
- Keeping your hands dry while gripping slippery fish
Skip if
- You prefer traditional gaffing nets for large fish
- You need maximum gripping force on heavy species
Strengths
- Floating design means it stays visible and retrievable if dropped in water
- One-handed locking jaw frees a hand for camera or rod
- Compact 6-inch size fits tackle boxes and gear bags
Trade-offs
- Plastic construction is not as durable as metal grips for extreme saltwater use
- Locking jaw exerts moderate force; unsuitable for very large or hard-mouthed fish
- Grip area can slide if hands are extremely wet or soapy
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Saltwater
