Quick take

A floating scale with built-in gripper for weighing and handling fish.

This Rapala combo pairs a 9-inch floating fish gripper with a digital scale that weighs up to 50 lb. The gripper has a one-hand quick-release jaw and a wrist lanyard, and it floats if it slips from your grip. The scale has a tare function for weighing a fish in a container and shuts off by itself after 4 minutes, so it suits anglers who want to hold, weigh and release in one step.

Best for

  • Boat fishing where dropping scales overboard is a risk
  • Anglers who want scale and gripper in one tool
  • Quick weight checks on larger fish

Skip if

  • You primarily weigh small panfish
  • You need a hanging scale

Strengths

  • Floating design prevents loss in water
  • Gripper and scale combined save space and weight
  • 50 lb capacity suits most freshwater and saltwater fish

Trade-offs

  • Combo tool may not perform either function perfectly
  • 50 lb limit insufficient for very large fish
  • Scale accuracy depends on proper use

  • Saltwater
