Quick take
A beginner fly fishing outfit with a medium-fast 5-weight graphite rod, Crosswater reel, RIO line and leader in a zippered travel case.
This Redington Crosswater outfit bundles a 9-foot, four-piece graphite 5-weight rod with a matched reel, RIO Mainstream WF5F line and leader, all packed in a zippered travel case. The medium-fast action suits newer fly casters, and the rod breaks down small for backpacking or a car trunk. It makes sense for a first fly setup aimed at trout.
Best for
- Trout fishing in streams and small rivers
- Road trips where the 4-piece rod fits in a car
Skip if
- You fish salt water; 5-weight is too light
- You want a single-piece rod; this breaks into 4 pieces for travel
Strengths
- Pre-matched rod, reel and line eliminate guesswork
- 4-piece construction fits in a backpack or car
- Zippered case protects gear on travels
Trade-offs
- Medium-fast action requires learning curve for beginners
- 5-weight is light for large trout or windy conditions
- Disc drag is basic and can slip under sustained runs
