Quick take
A 9-weight saltwater fly line with low-stretch core designed for average and novice fly fishers targeting bonefish, permit and tarpon.
Best for
- Saltwater flats fishing for bonefish and permit
- Small boat or wading trips where distance is moderate
- Fly fishers new to saltwater or intermediate in skill
Skip if
- You fish deep offshore water; use heavier weights
- You need to punch into strong wind
Strengths
- DirectCore stretches 30 percent less than standard tropical cores for better feel
- Slightly heavier weight and shorter head help novice casters load a rod
- Lies straight on the water with minimal coiling
Trade-offs
- 9-weight may be too heavy for small tarpon or light permit
- Line coils can persist in tropical heat even with low-stretch core
- Designed for average conditions; not optimized for extreme distance
