Quick take

A three-spool pack of Rio Powerflex Plus nylon tippet, 4X to 6X in a convenient tub.

Rio Powerflex Plus is a clear copolymer nylon tippet sold as a three-spool pack in 4X to 6X, a range suited to trout fly fishing and fine leader work. Its nylon is built for knot strength and suppleness, though the maker's FAQ notes it keeps less strength after a wind knot than its replacement does. The line has been discontinued in favor of Powerflex Strong, so anglers who want this nylon now may find it hard to get.

Best for

Trout fly fishing with dry flies and small nymphs
Fly anglers who need reliable knot strength
Economical replacement of worn tippets

Skip if

You fish saltwater fly; use saltwater-specific tippet
You prefer fluorocarbon tippet for clarity

Strengths

High knot strength and suppleness for reliable fly connection
Nylon has good stretch for shock absorption on hooksets
Three-pack in a plastic tub is convenient and economical

Trade-offs

Nylon is less visible than fluorocarbon in clear water
Takes time to season before optimal performance
4X to 6X range requires careful fly selection
