Quick take
A 30 yd spool of 4X tippet with 8 inch sections of alternating fluorescent pink and chartreuse for European-style nymphing.
RIO's 2-Tone Indicator Tippet is a 4X tippet with a 6 lb line test, built from alternating 8-inch sections of fluorescent pink and fluorescent chartreuse. Those sharp color changes give anglers a visual cue when tight-line nymphing, and the sections are made for building sighters in European-style nymphing setups. Each spool holds 30 yards, so anglers can cut their own sighter lengths to fit a rig.
Best for
- Fly fishers doing tight-line or European nymphing
- Anglers who want maximum contrast for strike detection
- Clear to slightly off-color water where visibility is good
Skip if
- You fish dry flies or wet flies; use standard tippet
- You do indicator nymphing; the colors won't help
Strengths
- Bright color changes create maximum contrast for visual cues
- 8 inch sections let you build custom leaders of any length
- Fluorescent pink and chartreuse are visible in most light conditions
- 30 yards provides plenty of material for multiple leaders
Trade-offs
- Visibility works against stealth in very clear water
- Bright colors may spook selective fish in clear conditions
- Regular nylon tippet has no advantage over this material in strength
