Quick take

A mechanical tool that slides down your line to dislodge lures caught above water without breaking line.

The RocketSlug is a plastic lure retriever for lures snagged above the water in trees, brush, rocks or weeds. It clips onto your line and slides up to the snag, then a 40-foot tether lets you pull the lure free. It weighs about 5 ounces and measures roughly 10 inches long, so it rides easily in a tackle bag or pocket.

Best for

  • Tree snags where you do not want to break off
  • Brush, rocks and other hard cover

Skip if

  • Your lures get snagged deep underwater
  • You often lose lures to soft cover

Strengths

  • Punching mechanism dislodges lures without damaging them
  • Lightweight and portable enough to carry always
  • Snap attachment makes it quick to deploy

Trade-offs

  • Only works on above-water snags, not submerged ones
  • 40 foot tether limits depth of retrieval
  • Requires the lure to stay hooked to work

Fishing fit

  • Freshwater
  • Saltwater
