Quick take
A set of six plastic hook removers in two sizes and vibrant colors for removing hooks from toothed and trash fish.
This set holds six plastic hook removers in two lengths, three of each, in green, yellow and red. The longer ones run about 7 inches and the shorter ones about 6 inches, so they suit a range of hook sizes and slip easily into a tackle box. A disgorger like this helps you back a hook out of a fish quickly, which is handy when you plan to release your catch.
Best for
- Catch-and-release fishing where hand injury risk is high
- Removing triple hooks from pike and catfish
- Extended trips where backup tools prevent losing one in water
Skip if
- You use needle-nose pliers for all hook removal
- You target only fish that swallow hooks
Strengths
- Generous quantity of six tools ensures backups are available
- Two sizes handle small panfish hooks through large catfish trebles
- Vibrant colors resist loss in grass or water
Trade-offs
- Plastic is durable but not as strong as metal for large fish
- Requires a different technique than metal hook removers
- Bright colors may attract attention in clear water
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Saltwater
- Skill level
- Beginner
