Quick take
Compact diamond-surfaced hook files that sharpen dull fishing hooks to needle points for better hook sets.
This is a two-piece set of pocket-size diamond hook files, each about 4 inches long with a grip handle. One side carries a medium 200-grit surface with two grooves and the other a fine 400-grit surface with one groove, so you can touch up a dulled point in two passes. The black and red set is light enough to ride in a tackle box or vest pocket.
Best for
- Anglers who fish with the same hooks repeatedly
- Maintaining hooks throughout long trips
- Freshwater and saltwater use
Skip if
- You prefer to replace hooks rather than sharpen
- You fish small panfish hooks regularly
Strengths
- Diamond grit surfaces are harder and last longer than stone
- Two grit options handle different sharpening stages
- Dipped handle provides secure grip without slipping
Trade-offs
- Requires practice to maintain optimal point angle
- Not ideal for extremely dull or damaged hooks
- Small groove sizes limit hook size range
