Quick take
A magnetic net release with 8.8-pound hold and carabiner for attaching nets and tools to vests and wader belts.
This magnetic net release pairs a neodymium magnet with a coiled lanyard that extends to about 75 inches. The carabiner clips to a vest, wader belt, pack or kayak D-ring, so a landing net stays within reach and out of the way. The magnet pulls free with a tug, and the same setup can hold pliers, nippers or forceps for fly anglers working from the bank or the water.
Best for
- Fly fishing with landing nets attached to vest
- Keeping pliers and forceps accessible while wading
- Securing gear to kayak or boat during active fishing
Skip if
- You use a different net attachment system
- You prefer traditional net release knots
Strengths
- Strong neodymium magnet holds securely without tying
- Multipurpose for holding pliers and other heavy tools
- 75-inch retractable lanyard prevents line entanglement
- Carabiner attachment works with most vests
Trade-offs
- Magnet strength gradually diminishes with age
- Requires D-ring or carabiner point on clothing
- Coil lanyard may not function ideally in all situations
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Saltwater
- Techniques
- Fly fishing
