Quick take

A fluorocarbon fly tippet in 6X for drag-free drifts and clear-water trout presentations.

This is a clear fluorocarbon tippet in the 6X size, with a line test of 3.5 lb and a diameter of about 0.13 mm on a 30-meter spool. Its fluorocarbon makeup suits trout anglers who want a near-invisible line below the surface in clear freshwater. It is a fit when a leader calls for a fine tippet, from first casts to a more experienced angler's delicate presentations.

Best for

Dry fly fishing for selective trout
Small nymph presentations in clear, calm water
Presentations where trout can see the tippet

Skip if

You fish large streamers requiring stronger tippets
You fish tannic or off-color water

Strengths

Fluorocarbon nearly invisible in clear water
Supple design allows natural fly drift without drag
High wet-knot strength for small fly techniques

Trade-offs

6X breaks at 3.5 lb; limits ability to land large trout quickly
Fluorocarbon sinks, affecting dry-fly flotation near the fly
Requires patient, precise casting and mending
