Quick take
100-yard Dacron backing for fly reels, offering high abrasion resistance and thin diameter.
This orange Dacron backing is 100 yards of 20 lb test, the line that sits between a fly reel and the fly line. Its extremely thin build keeps the backing slim on the spool, and its high-visibility color makes it easy to track during a long run. It suits anglers who fish steelhead or bonefish and want that extra backing for runs that drain a reel quickly.
Best for
- Fly reels for steelhead and salmon
- Saltwater fly fishing for large fish
- Spooling under fly line for drag-blistering runs
Skip if
- You fish small trout ponds needing less backing
- You prefer monofilament backing
Strengths
- Dacron construction is tough and abrasion-resistant
- Thin diameter fits more yardage on the reel
- Orange color visibility aids in line identification
Trade-offs
- 100 yards may be overkill for small trout streams
- Dacron is rougher on hands than modern braided backing
- Requires proper maintenance to prevent rot
