Quick take

Magnetic threader that guides tippet through tiny fly eyes and automatically seats hooks.

This magnetic tippet threader holds a small fly steady so the tippet can be guided through the eye without fine finger work. It suits anglers whose hands are cold, whose eyesight is tired, or who are working from a boat or in moving water. It handles a range of fly sizes, with or without bead heads, and comes with a retractor for keeping it close at hand.

Best for

  • Fly fishers with arthritis or poor vision
  • Cold-weather fishing when hands are numb

Skip if

  • You tie flies quickly by hand already
  • You fish large streamers and saltwater flies

Strengths

  • Magnetic catch automatically pulls hook into place
  • Groove guides tippet precisely through eye
  • Works with or without bead-head flies

Trade-offs

  • Requires a second hand to hold while threading
