Quick take

Protective pouch for 5/6 weight fly reels to prevent dings and scratches during storage and transport.

This is a pouch-style reel cover from SF, sized for fly reels in the 5/6 weight class. It slips over the reel to keep it protected from knocks and dirt while it rides in a pack, vehicle or rod tube. At 2.39 ounces and about 5.9 by 5.6 inches, it adds little bulk to a fly angler's gear.

Best for

  • Travel and air transport of fly reel kits
  • Storing fly reels between fishing trips

Skip if

  • You have only one reel in constant use
  • Your reel is a single-action model (smaller than 5/6 wt)

Strengths

  • Sized precisely for 5/6 weight reels, fits snugly without excess bulk
  • Lightweight pouch adds minimal weight to a travel kit
  • Protective material shields reels from minor impacts and abrasion

Trade-offs

  • Fits only 5/6 weight reels; incompatible with larger saltwater or smaller trout reels
  • Pouch alone offers limited protection against hard impacts
  • Case does not include strap or handle for standalone carry
