Quick take
A compact low-profile baitcaster with a narrow MGL spool and magnesium body optimized for lighter freshwater lures.
The Shimano Curado MGL 70 K is a compact, low-profile baitcaster with a metal HAGANE body and a narrow, lightweight MGL spool. At 6.9 oz with SVS Infinity braking and a Cross Carbon drag, it suits anglers pitching, flipping and casting lighter lures into cover with braid. This is the size 70 right-hand model.
Best for
- Pitching and flipping near cover with finesse lures
- Anglers seeking a compact lightweight baitcaster
- Freshwater bass and pan fish
Skip if
- You plan saltwater fishing; magnesium corrodes in salt
- You fish heavy baits where spool inertia aids momentum
Strengths
- Narrow MGL spool reduces moment of inertia by approximately ten percent for lighter lure handling
- Magnesium HAGANE body delivers high rigidity at only 6.9 oz
- SVS Infinity braking system provides smooth, intuitive spool control across lure weights
Trade-offs
- Not recommended for saltwater due to magnesium corrosion
- Seven point four to eight point one gear ratio is fast; requires technique on heavy cover
- Compact size may feel cramped for anglers with large hands
